"The theatre in the country"
The Heron is a small theatre housed in a listed building
originally one of the old two-room Grammar schools of
the 18th century.
The attractive heron sculpture is the work of local
artist, Paul Woodmass and the theatre was officially
opened by H.R.H Princess Alexandra in July 2001.
The theatre runs a regular fortnightly programme of
plays, revues, lectures and musical events which are
open to the public.

"On
the banks of the River Bela in South Cumbria close to the
Lancashire border, this mill is one of the few still working in
the area"
The present mill building dates from 1740's, and all
the internal machinery is powered by a 14 ft diameter high breast
shot water wheel. Some of the machinery dates from the mid
nineteenth century. This includes the main shaft, pit wheel and
wallower.
In the Mill, the milling process is explained and demonstrated.
Cereal products are on sale, as well as small gifts, including
sheets of hand made paper made in the Museum.
