Crab Fair |
|

|
"First
held in 1267"
Every year the
townsfolk of Egremont hold an annual celebration after harvest
time, known as The Crab Fair.
Crab Fair day is always the third Saturday in September and is
eagerly awaited by the whole community.
The Crab Fair is famous worldwide for the World Championship
gurning competition, where contestants pull ugly faces through a
horse collar or 'braffin'. This event is always the final event of
the Fair, and causes huge excitement and sometimes controversy.
